Psychological trauma occurs as a result of a distressing event or events. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a mental health disorder that can develop in some individuals who have experienced trauma. After a traumatic event some people will experience symptoms severe enough to lead to a diagnosis of PTSD while others will experience only some of the symptoms.

Trauma is your subjective experience and it is important to recognize that your responses are normal reactions to abnormal events.
